Working with Schools

Nature Child delivers 'Cross Curricular' learning experiences that embrace the Four Core Purposes and empower the delivery of the New Curriculum for Wales.  The bio-diverse environment at our 4-acre wild nature classroom provides an outstanding wealth of opportunities for developing skills and understanding within the six areas of learning:

  • Humanities (H)

  • Maths & Numeracy (M&L)

  • Language, Literacy & Communication, (LLC)

  • Science and Technology (S&T)

  • Expressive Arts (EA)

  • Health & Wellbeing (H&W)

New skills and understanding are so embedded within contexts of challenge and excitment that children  'forget they are in school!'

For example, part of our 'Hands on History' curriculum, your Wattle and Daub Day will consist of investigating how ancient communities, would have built their dwelling structures. The children explore the properties of natural building materials and understand the difference between Hazel and less flexible woods which grow in our woodland. They use the hazel to weave Wattle Pannels. Working as teams they compete to make the most effective daub. This involves measuring quantities of a range of different materials including water, earth, clay, sawdust and ash. The children then test the stickiness and density of their Daub and adapt their recipe to improve it, recording their results in grams and millilitres.
